Carpal Tunnel
Diet
People who suffer with diabetes or hypothyroidism are at higher risk of carpal tunnel and so following a diet lower in refined carbohydrates is important.
Lifestyle
-
Repetitive activities with the wrist flexed or extended are known to be a major risk factor. If you do a lot of work with your hands make sure that the hand remains in a neutral position with the wrist supported. Splint when necessary. Do not wait for the condition to progress, at first signs take aggressive measures to limit repetitive activities.
-
Exercise to keep the blood sugar level healthy and the thyroid functioning. Diabetes and hypothyroid are known to increase your risk.
-
Women, be careful with oral contraceptives as this increases the risk of carpal tunnel.
-
Try a technique called Hydrotherapy where you place the hands in hot water for 3 minutes and then move them to a bucket of cold water for 30 seconds. Repeat 3-5 times per session and do this twice daily in the morning and evening. This technique is believed to open compressed capillaries that feed the median nerve.
